Gabriel Martinez Cabrera

Executive Director, Literary Council of Montgomery County

G. Martinez Cabrera is a community organizer, educator and storyteller who works at the intersection of workforce development, education, and advocacy. He helped build the Beacon Project, a national network of adult education sites that were successfully leveraging technology to serve some of the hardest-to-reach and hardest-to-teach adult learners.

He continued this work at the Academy of Hope in Washington, DC as its Deputy Chief Program Officer, where he oversaw recruitment and Workforce Development programming. That experience helped him at SEIU International, as Manager of Process Development, where he oversaw rollout of programming for all SEIU chapters on the East Coast with an emphasis on developing digital outreach strategies.

Currently, he is the Executive Director of the Literacy Council of Montgomery County where he leads a team of professional educators and community builders to bring about change for adults who need academic and vocational training.

Mr. Martinez Cabrera holds degrees from Columbia and Harvard.

Specialties: advocacy, community outreach, adult education, education technology, and storytelling.

Gabe joined the Literary Council of Montgomery County (LCMC) in August 2017. He has worked in under-served communities in New York, Boston, and San Francisco. Over the years, his work evolved into workforce development, where he was in charge of a federally funded program that helped young returning citizens find family sustaining employment. He brings to his work a belief that education is more than teaching; it is an act of building community.
